Artist Statement

The most exciting aspect of painting for me is the quality of light, whether natural or artificial.  I love to take what I see and make it my own.  Through observation, reference photos, and drawings, I work to keep the information in my subjects direct yet beautiful.  I process an idea by analyzing it in terms of abstract shapes, light, and shadow.  Certain elements will be eliminated totally, and others exaggerated in order to express my own vision.

My goal is to convey something specific about my reaction to a place
or a moment in time.  I strive to capture the essence but not the whole
so that the viewer can experience their own interpretation.
